Genetics & Evolution

Decipher the story of life's genetic heritage and its ever-changing course.

DNA Replication, Expression, and Regulation

We’ll be exploring everything about DNA in this handout, starting from its history to replication, expression, and regulation. These topics are very important to the USABO (being covered in both cell biology and genetics), and you will also explore several tangents that are interesting but less relevant for the USABO, which will be specially marked.

Fundamentals of Genetics

In this lesson, we embark on a thrilling journey to explore the blueprints of inheritance, the secrets of traits and variations, and the incredible stories hidden within our genes. Get ready to uncover the fascinating mysteries that define who we are and the limitless potential that genetics holds.

Biotechnology

Biology deals with a lot of small things–many complex fibers are very thin, and those fibers are made of cells, which have in them even smaller organelles. Humans have fat fingers, making it hard to poke around and do experiments. As such, we need biotechnology to explore and discover all that biology has to offer.

Evolution

Humans are fascinated with the past. From a young age, we learn history, tell stories, and obsess over dinosaurs. In a sense, understanding our past allows us to understand our present: past events determine future outcomes and shape our lives. With this interest in the past, it is natural to then consider the past of life itself: evolution. In this lesson, we will explore why things came to be the way they are now
